The members of the MTA-ELTE Volcanology Research Group and the ELTE geology students took part in a group fieldwork, the aim of which was to get to know the volcanism of the Eifel Mountains in Germany and to learn field volcanology. The fieldwork was led by Dr. Gerhard Wörner, professor of geology at the Georg-August-Universität in Göttingen.
Its main theme was the volcanism of the East Eifel and within that the 12,900-year-old Laacher See eruption, which was closed on the last day by the teepra strata and panoramic lakes of the maar volcanoes of the West Eifel. The geological professional program was well complemented by geotourism aspects presenting the possibilities of tourism utilization of geological values (Vulkaneifel geopark, Deutsche Vulkanstraße).
